Use Your Own Body Weight To Achieve Real Fitness This Year

For some, getting in shape feels like it's the equivalent to climbing Mount McKinley in Alaska - a tiring, arduous task that not many people can accomplish. You might think that it's an impossible task because you're basing your thoughts on what hasn't worked in the past.

It's true that there are plenty of exercise methods that promise too much for your efforts, but actually deliver little in return. That's why so many people get upset and frustrated with working out.

There's no use in continuing to try something that's not working. The good news is that it's not you that was in the wrong. It was the method. The truth is that there are plenty of methods that simply don't work because they're not created with the average person in mind.

Bodyweight training, however, is different. It's the kind of method that anyone can use and it doesn't matter if you've settled into a sedentary lifestyle or if you're someone who already faithfully works out.

This method will still help give you the muscles you want, improve your shape and add long-term health benefits. You can do a variety of exercises that are intended for use with bodyweight training.

Some of these only require the use of your body because your body provides all of the resistance that you'll ever need. But what some people do to rev it up a notch is they add things such as ankle or wrist cuffs that are weighted.

These items offer an additional layer of resistance. So the user burns fat faster and it makes the body work harder. What some people fail to take into consideration, though, is that bodyweight training isn't a bandage.

You can't simply add it to your life to cover up habits that are going to derail you. For example, some people think that all they have to do is take part in exercises like bodyweight training and that will make up for oversized portions and unhealthy food choices.

But it doesn't. You can't out-run bad habits with added exercise. You need to have a method in place that not only burns calories but also builds lean muscle, and that includes better food choices.

For example, in the Bodyweight Burn program, you'll learn how to set up an effective routine that will cause you to lose weight, have energy and build muscle using bodyweight training.

You won't have to give up carbs or buy weird sounding foods. You can eat a normal diet, but you'll learn how to combine the foods you enjoy so that they work for your body instead of against it.

You'll learn how to keep off rebound weight. You'll also learn how to use cardio to burn fat. The program offers you step-by-step instructions on bodyweight training routines so that you can lose fat and gain muscle. You'll also learn what to eat and how to use your current program to get the fat loss results you want.

It does include a warm up and cool down, and it is a body weight workout, so you won't need any equipment and it can be done pretty much anywhere. Video: 10-Minute Interval Training Cardio Workout

High-intensity interval cardio is one of the best forms of exercise for achieving many different fitness goals. Whether your goal is weight loss, definition, or overall fitness this year, the interval method offers quick results in a short amount of time, so it's great for today's busy person on the go, and can be done just about anywhere, often without any equipment at all.

This week's workout is no exception. In less than 10 minutes, it exercises and tones the entire body, with a focus on the lower body (glutes, quads, etc.), and core muscles, and provides hard-hitting cardio as well. 8 different exercises are done for 40 seconds each, with "hit the deck" (plank) instructions throughout the workout to work the core and add variety. No equipment is necessary, although you should wear a good pair of athletic shoes for this workout.*

The workout does not include a warm-up or cool down, so be sure to add these yourself at the beginning and end.

* Note: Any workout involves a risk of injury. Be sure to consult your healthcare provider or a fitness professional before beginning any new workout or fitness program, and warm up first and follow all instructions to avoid injury.

Video: Weight Training Workout for Fat Loss

This 30-minute workout works your entire body, toning and strengthening your muscles, so you'll burn more fat - even after you're finished with the routine!* Free weights (dumbbells) are needed for this workout. Free weights can help with fat burning, as they will challenge and use more of your muscle groups for each movement, creating more calorie burn, and also a more balanced physique than working out with a weight machine. Not to mention, they take up a lot less room in your home!

Use whatever weight works for you - but be sure to pace yourself, as it's a fairly long weight routine. You may want to start out with heavier weights, then switch to lighter ones as your muscles start to get tired, so you can avoid injury. Also be sure to warm up and stretch before doing this workout as this is not included in the video. Be careful, pay attention to the instructions, and listen to your body.

Now let's get ready to get our burn on!

* Note: Be sure to consult your healthcare practitioner and/or trainer before beginning any new workout routine, especially if you are at a low fitness level.

Video: 20-Minute High-Intensity Interval Training Workout for Fat Loss

This excellent workout uses the interval training model to burn fat and help you lose weight quickly by revving up your metabolism. The workout consists of a 5 minute warmup segment to get your blood moving and your muscles warmed up, a 10-minute high-intensity interval workout (with a 2-minute active rest in the middle) to challenge your heart, lungs, and muscles, and 5 minutes of cool down.

The workout challenges all of your different muscle groups with two challenging exercises, with two sets of 20 seconds each for each exercise, with a 10-second rest between each set. It may not sound like much, but the exercises are intense enough that you will be burning even after 20 seconds! Add this into your fitness program a few times a week, and watch your body slim down fast.

We recommend watching it through once while following along at your own pace, and once you get it down, put on your favorite workout music, and get moving!*

* Note: Be sure to consult with your physician to be sure you are healthy enough for a high-intensity workout before beginning this or any similar exercise program.

Video: Fun 8-Minute Cardio Interval Workout

This short video will give you a full-body workout in just 8 minutes - no equipment needed. Doing your cardio in intervals not only strengthens your heart and cardiovascular capacity, but it also boosts your metabolism for up to 24 hours after your workout, and it's easier on your body than steady-state endurance cardio, which is hard on your heart and your other muscles.

Plus it's way more fun, since you are constantly switching motions and taking breaks in between exercises, which is more natural for your body. And you'll be done with your whole workout in less than 10 minutes! Be sure to let your heart rate come down a bit in between sets in order to get the maximum benefits. And use the modifications if needed - work at your own pace and fitness level. (Be sure to consult your physician before beginning any new exercise routine, especially if you are starting at a low fitness level.)
